Who writes Finish Though Contact?

A cranky just-south-of-40s-ish queer who loves the W.

My basketball credentials:

  • I was 5’8″ in fifth grade and briefly excellent at basketball because of this. I never officially reached 5′ 9″.
  • I lived in rural Connecticut from Shea Ralph through the first year of Tina Charles. UConn games were broadcast on local public TV and on the radio (AM 1080!). As a tween, I once lost a regular babysitting gig because I wanted to listen to the game and the only radio I could find was on the parents’ bedside table (they were not equally passionate fans).
  • I worked at the University of Oregon while Sabrina, Satou, Ruthy, and Maite were there.
  • I was supposed to be at the 2020 Final Four in New Orleans, but unfortunately…we all know what happened that year.
  • I got to see Chelsea Gray absolutely torch The Seattle Storm in what turned out to be Sue Bird & Breanna Stewart’s last games (for the Storm).
Why “Finish Through Contact?”

Because in basketball, as in life (ah, yes — a life-sports comparison) one of the only things you know for sure is that you’re gonna take some f***ing knocks.

How many WNBA arenas have I been to?

As of June, 2025: only two! : (

I’ve been to Climate Pledge Arena, in Seattle, WA, home of The Seattle Storm. (I also saw The Storm play at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, WA.)

I’ve also been to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, home of The Connecticut Sun. I got to see Game 3 of the 2019 WNBA Finals, which was a back-and-forth battle.
